Introduction
Amethyst (full name Angel Aura Amethyst) is a launcher that runs Minecraft: Java Edition, the PC version, on Android. It is the continuation of PojavLauncher, which in turn grew out of Boardwalk. It isn’t Bedrock Edition, the version sold on Google Play. This is the real Java game with Java mods, running on a mobile port of OpenJDK.
What it supports
According to the README:
- Almost every Minecraft version, from the earliest (
rd-132211) to the current snapshots. - Forge and Fabric mods, with both a GUI and a headless mod installer. The app can also create NeoForge, Quilt and OptiFine profiles, and modpack profiles.
- Java for every version. Java 8 is inside the app, and newer Java versions are downloaded when a Minecraft version needs them.
- Touch controls that you can customise, plus game surface zooming.
This build carries native code for seven CPU types, including 32-bit ARM and x86. That is more than the other launchers here, and together with the Android 5.0 minimum it makes Amethyst the one to try on older phones. How well a given phone runs the game is another matter. Minecraft Java is demanding, and our checks don’t cover performance.
What you need
- A Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition. The launcher downloads the game files from Mojang’s servers. Amethyst doesn’t include the game.
- Free storage for game versions, Java runtimes and mods, which add up to far more than the app itself.
About this file
The README mainly points users to automatic nightly builds. We host the numbered release from the project’s GitHub Releases instead: a fixed file we can check against GitHub’s published hash and a recorded signing key. The version name on the file includes the word legacy. We host it as published.
There is also an iOS version, Amethyst-iOS, in a separate repository.
