Introduction
Artemis is a game-streaming client for Android by ClassicOldSong (Yukino Song), a fork of Moonlight. Its README introduces it as “Previously named Moonlight Noir” and “An open source client for Apollo/Sunshine”, which “will allow you to stream your collection of games from your Windows PC to your Android device, whether in your own home or over the internet.” The same developer makes Apollo, a fork of the Sunshine host for the PC: “A more seamless experience with virtual display will be Artemis paired with Apollo.”
What it adds to Moonlight
The README lists 30 additions. Among them:
- Controls: custom on-screen buttons that you can import and export, improved virtual gamepad skins with a free joystick, several mouse modes, trackpad tapping and scrolling, Joy-Con D-pad support and non-QWERTY keyboard layouts.
- Display: custom resolutions and bitrates, Fit, Fill or Stretch scaling, panning and zooming, portrait mode, rotating the screen in game and an external monitor mode.
- With Apollo only: a virtual display on the PC created at your device’s resolution and frame rate (Windows only, and off by default in Artemis), server commands, pairing by one-time code or link, and clipboard sync, which is experimental and off by default.
- Simplified performance statistics, and a game menu on the back button.
What you need
A Windows PC with a supported GPU running Apollo or Sunshine, on the same network or reachable over the internet. You pair the phone once with a PIN shown on the PC. Apollo also lets you decide which permissions each paired device gets; the first device gets full control.
What goes online
Artemis connects to your PC and finds PCs on the local network by multicast DNS. From the 20.2.6 code, two of Moonlight’s servers are also contacted, as in Moonlight itself:
- Moonlight’s connection test (
android.conntest.moonlight-stream.org), when a stream fails or disconnects in a way that suggests blocked ports, when adding a PC by address fails, or when you run the network test. - Moonlight’s STUN server, to learn your internet address after it finds a PC on your network; as in Moonlight, the code makes that request only while the phone is on a VPN.
There is no update check: the Software update entry only opens GitHub or Obtainium. Performance logging is off by default and, in the app’s words, “Offline only”; logs leave the phone only if you share them, by email to the developer’s address. Our scan found no trackers.
The permissions it asks for
Eleven: internet, the network and Wi-Fi state, multicast for finding PCs, keeping the device awake while streaming, vibration, notifications and reordering tasks for the external-display controls, two TV programme-guide permissions for its channel row on Android TV, and one that AndroidX adds for internal use.
About this file
- This is the developer’s own release of version 20.2.6, the non-root “game” build (
artemis-nonRoot_game-release.apk) from the project’s GitHub page, signed with a key issued to Yukino Song of SudoMaker. No keystore or password appears in the repository’s history. - About 14 months have passed since this release, so treat the project as slow-moving. Artemis isn’t on Google Play, F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid; the README suggests Obtainium for updates.
- The 12.1 MB file runs on Android 5.0 and later, on ARM and x86, 32- and 64-bit. It targets Android 14’s API level, an older target than current Moonlight.
- Artemis is licensed under the GPL-3.0. The screenshots in its repository still show Moonlight’s 2019 interface, so this page has none.

Common questions
Is this APK the official Artemis release?
Yes. It is the file from the project’s v20.2.6 release on GitHub, byte for byte, and it matches the SHA-256 checksum GitHub publishes for it. It is signed with the certificate we recorded when we first checked Artemis (SHA-256 d06f9a5fadeddef3910b1506e7a24d1c628ce42e72ba3660340dbb9f5dea81d6); a release signed with a different key would not be published here.
What Android version does Artemis need?
Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). Version 20.2.6 is built for Android 14 (target API 34). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.
Can Artemis access the internet?
Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 11 permissions, and 1 of them needs your approval first.
Does Artemis contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 20.2.6 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is Artemis open source?
Yes. Artemis is released under the GPL-3.0 licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/ClassicOldSong/moonlight-android.
Do I need Apollo on my PC?
Not for streaming. The release notes say that “Virtual Display, OTP/DeepLink pairing, Server Commands and Clipboard Sync can only function with Apollo. Compatibility with current Sunshine hosts are not affected, but might break with GFE.” Apollo is the PC host by the same developer; Sunshine is the one most Moonlight users run.
Can I install it next to Moonlight?
Yes. Artemis uses its own package name, com.limelight.noir, and its own signing key, so the two apps install side by side; each keeps its own list of paired PCs.
Why does my phone treat it as a game, or cap the frame rate?
This build marks itself as a game, so phone makers’ game modes pick it up. The release notes warn that “Some devices will lock framerate when having ‘Game Booster’/‘Game Helper’ enabled”; switching that off or removing Artemis from those tools may help.
Is there a newer version?
Only a test one. 20.2.6, from August 2025, is the latest regular release; an experimental pre-release followed in September 2025, and since then the repository has had only translations and small merges. This site hosts the regular release.
