Introduction

Clash Meta for Android is a graphical client around the Mihomo core, formerly known as Clash.Meta. It creates an Android VPN tunnel and applies a YAML profile for proxies, routing rules and remote providers. DNS can be defined there too, but the app supplies its own defaults when the profile leaves DNS disabled.

The app supplies no account, server or subscription. It accepts local files and remote profile URLs. A remote URL is contacted when the profile is imported or updated, and provider URLs in the profile may be fetched on their own schedules. Treat subscription URLs like credentials because they often grant access to a paid or private service.

Protocols and routing

F-Droid’s current description lists VMess, Shadowsocks, Trojan and Snell, local HTTP/HTTPS/SOCKS proxies, encrypted DNS upstreams, fake-IP DNS and rules based on domains, GeoIP, IP ranges or processes. The bundled Mihomo core supports more options than a short page can safely enumerate; whether a specific profile works depends on its schema and the core version in this APK.

If a profile does not enable dns:, the app patches in fake-IP DNS, the system resolver, AliDNS (223.5.5.5), DNSPod (119.29.29.29), Google (8.8.4.4) and Cloudflare (1.0.0.1). DNS hijacking starts enabled and respect-rules starts off, so those fallback queries are sent directly rather than through proxy rules. Define an explicit dns: section to choose different resolvers. GeoIP, GeoSite and ASN databases are bundled in the APK and are not downloaded by default.

Rules can send different destinations or apps through different outbound groups, direct connections or blocks. Remote groups can perform latency selection, fallback and load balancing; a group without its own test URL may contact www.gstatic.com/generate_204 for latency checks. This flexibility also means a profile controls a large part of the device’s network path, DNS and destinations. Use configurations from an operator you trust and review unknown provider URLs and routing rules before importing them.

The camera permission is for QR import. QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES provides the installed-app list used to include or exclude apps from the tunnel and to evaluate app rules. INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS can only be granted through ADB and supports Android 17 work-profile loopback. The exported control intent also lets another installed app request that the tunnel start or stop. Boot and foreground-service permissions keep an enabled tunnel or scheduled profile update running. Android allows only one VPN connection at once, so Clash Meta cannot run beside another VPN-based firewall or provider app.

About this file

Version 2.11.35.Meta, build 211035, is F-Droid’s build of the GPL-3.0-only project. The 112.1 MB APK runs on Android 5.0 and later and carries the core for 32- and 64-bit ARM and x86, which accounts for much of its size. Its SHA-256 is b9dd093ec4e3440da53a369d8a594cbc431128876545eec13ceec6656637504a, matching F-Droid’s signed index. We verified package, signature, manifest and static contents; we did not connect it to a third-party proxy subscription.

Common questions

Is this APK the official Clash Meta for Android release?

It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled Clash Meta for Android 2.11.35.Meta from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.

What Android version does Clash Meta for Android need?

Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). Version 2.11.35.Meta is built for Android 15 (target API 35). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.

Can Clash Meta for Android access the internet?

Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 12 permissions, and 2 of them need your approval first.

Does Clash Meta for Android contain trackers?

No known trackers: our scan of version 2.11.35.Meta found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.

Is Clash Meta for Android open source?

Yes. Clash Meta for Android is released under the GPL-3.0-only licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/MetaCubeX/ClashMetaForAndroid.

Does Clash Meta for Android include a VPN server?

No. It is a client and routing engine. Import a local configuration or a profile/subscription URL supplied by an administrator or provider.

Why does it request the camera?

The camera scans profile URLs, but this importer accepts only http, https or Android content addresses—not ss:// or vmess:// share codes. You can instead import a file or URL and leave camera permission denied.

Why can it see installed apps?

QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES lets access control include or exclude selected apps from the tunnel and lets configuration rules match apps. That is broad package visibility and should be considered before installation.
