Introduction

Dolphin is an emulator for Nintendo’s GameCube and Wii, on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android. It is open source under the GPL, and it isn’t affiliated with Nintendo.

What your phone needs

For this version, the project lists:

  • Android 5.0 or later.
  • A 64-bit processor (ARMv8 or x86-64). The APK contains no 32-bit code, so it won’t install otherwise.
  • A graphics processor with OpenGL ES 3.0 or later. Vulkan is available too.

Games are not included

The project’s FAQ puts it plainly: buy the games and dump them yourself with a Wii. It calls downloading commercial games illegal.

What’s in this version

  • Real Wii Remotes through a DolphinBar, and Nintendo’s GameCube controller adapter.
  • An option to choose the GPU driver Dolphin uses.
  • Save states, switched off by default: the app warns that they may not work in future Dolphin versions.
  • RetroAchievements, added to the Android version in release 2512. The 2603a hotfix is required to use them.

Which version this is

Dolphin names releases by date: 2603 is March 2026, and the a marks a hotfix, released on March 17, 2026. It matters for older phones: from release 2606 on, Dolphin needs Android 7.0, so 2603a is the last release that still installs on Android 5 and 6.

Newer releases exist on Dolphin’s website and Google Play; 2609 added online multiplayer (NetPlay) to Android. This file is F-Droid’s build, signed with F-Droid’s key, so it won’t update a Dolphin installed from Google Play or the website, or the other way round, without uninstalling first.

Common questions

Is this APK the official Dolphin Emulator release?

It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled Dolphin Emulator 2603a from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.

What Android version does Dolphin Emulator need?

Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). Version 2603a is built for Android 16 (target API 36). Needs a 64-bit ARM phone; 32-bit-only devices are not supported.

Can Dolphin Emulator access the internet?

Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 9 permissions, and 3 of them need your approval first.

Does Dolphin Emulator contain trackers?

No known trackers: our scan of version 2603a found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.

Is Dolphin Emulator open source?

Yes. Dolphin Emulator is released under the GPL-2.0-or-later licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin.
