Introduction
Breezy Weather is an open-source weather app that doesn’t tie you to one forecast provider. Its README lists support for “more than 50 weather sources”, and you pick the one you trust for your area.
What it shows
From the project’s README:
- daily and hourly forecasts up to 16 days ahead, and precipitation in the next hour;
- severe weather and precipitation alerts;
- air quality, and pollen and mold;
- a large selection of widgets, and a live wallpaper;
- opt-in sharing of weather data with other apps, such as Gadgetbridge for smartwatches and fitness bands.
Privacy
The privacy policy opens with “Breezy Weather doesn’t collect any personal data”, and the README promises “No trackers/automatic crash reporters”. Our scan found no tracker libraries. Weather has to come from somewhere, so the app does contact the weather sources you choose, with your location if you allow it.
About this file
- This is the developers’ own build of the standard version, from IzzyOnDroid. The README publishes the SHA-256 of the signing certificate, and it matches this file’s (29:d4:35:f7…).
- It isn’t on Google Play, by the developers’ choice (see the questions below).
- It needs Android 6.0 or later, even though a badge on the README says API 21. The 21.8 MB file runs on ARM and x86, 32- and 64-bit, and declares 18 permissions, 5 of which need your approval, mostly for location.

Common questions
Is this APK the official Breezy Weather release?
Yes. It is the developer’s own release of Breezy Weather 6.2.2, byte for byte as IzzyOnDroid distributes it. Its SHA-256 matches IzzyOnDroid’s signed index, and it is signed with the certificate IzzyOnDroid records for the app (SHA-256 29d435f70aa9aec3c1faff7f7ffa6e15785088d87f06ecfcab9c3cc62dc269d8).
What Android version does Breezy Weather need?
Android 6.0 or later (API level 23). Version 6.2.2 is built for Android 16 (target API 36). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.
Can Breezy Weather access the internet?
Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 18 permissions, and 5 of them need your approval first.
Does Breezy Weather contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 6.2.2 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is Breezy Weather open source?
Yes. Breezy Weather is released under the LGPL-3.0-only licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/breezy-weather/breezy-weather.
Why isn’t Breezy Weather on Google Play?
Its developers chose not to publish it there. The README lists “Publish to Google Play Store” among the things that won’t be done, and the install guide says “We don’t comply with Google Play policy”. The project points to IzzyOnDroid, F-Droid and its GitHub releases instead.
What is the difference between the standard and free-network versions?
The standard version, which this is, supports all weather sources; the project recommends it and says it “is fully open source and contains no proprietary components”. The free-network version, which F-Droid ships, keeps only sources on free networks: Open-Meteo, Pirate Weather, Bright Sky (DWD), Recosanté and ClimWeb. Both are signed with the same key, so you can switch from one to the other.
