Introduction
Anuto, short for “Another Ugly Tower Defense”, is a tower defense game made by Mario Jaun in Switzerland (published as LogixIsland.ch), developed in the open since 2015. Despite the name, its F-Droid description promises “astonishing hand-drawn graphics and a smooth gameplay”. Enemies walk along a path towards the exit; you place towers next to it, and every enemy that gets through costs one of your 20 lives.
Towers and enemies
There are 12 towers in four lines of three. You build the first tower of each line, then turn it into the next one with Upgrade:
| Line | Build | Upgrades to |
|---|---|---|
| Bullet | Canon (100 credits) | Dual Canon, then Machine Gun |
| Laser | Simple Laser (150) | Bouncing Laser, then Straight Laser |
| Explosive | Mortar (250) | Mine Layer, then Rocket Launcher |
| Glue | Glue Tower (500) | Glue Gun, then Teleporter |
Enhance raises a tower’s level within its tier, adding damage and range and shortening its reload time, at a price that grows with each level. Every tower except the Glue Tower and the Mine Layer can be told which enemy to aim at (closest, weakest, strongest, first or last) and to lock on to its target, and selling a tower returns credits.
The five enemy types each react differently, and the matchups matter: a tower does triple damage against enemies weak to its type and a third against those strong against it. From the game’s code:
- Soldier: the plain one, no strengths or weaknesses.
- Sprinter: three times as fast, weak to explosives, strong against lasers.
- Blob: slow and tough, weak to explosives, strong against bullets.
- Healer: every few seconds heals the enemies around it; weak to lasers and bullets.
- Flyer: weak to lasers and bullets, strong against glue.
How a game goes
- You start with 500 credits and 20 lives, and earn credits by killing enemies and finishing waves.
- Calling the next wave early pays a bonus that grows with the reward of the enemies still on the field, so it is worth doing once your defence holds.
- Waves never stop. The game cycles through 15 wave patterns, harder each time around, until you run out of lives; the goal is the high score on each map.
- 23 maps, from The Original to Chaos, Moar Chaos and Highscore!; four of them were added by a contributor in 2023.
- Fast forward doubles the speed with each tap, up to 32×.
- The game saves automatically when you leave it, and Save Game stores separate saves, each with a small screenshot, to load later. A short tutorial runs on the first game and can be started again in the settings.
- Three themes (Original, Dark and Colour), sound on or off, and transparent in-game menus.
It plays in portrait only, and its manifest marks it for phone and medium-sized tablet screens, not very small screens or large tablets.
What it connects to
Nothing. Anuto declares no permissions at all, so it has no internet access, no ads and no purchases. Its privacy policy is one sentence: “This application does not collect or store personal data.”
About this file
- This is F-Droid’s build of version 0.13, compiled from the project’s source code and signed with F-Droid’s key. The developer also publishes Anuto on Google Play under the same package name; that copy is signed with a different key, so you can’t install one over the other without uninstalling first.
- Version 0.13, from September 2024, fixes “edge to edge issues”, the display changes of recent Android versions. There have been no new commits since, though the developer still answered questions on the issue tracker in 2025.
- The 6.3 MB file has no native code and needs Android 6.0 or later. Our scan found no trackers.
- The screenshots come from the project’s repository and are from 2015; the current version looks similar but not identical.
- Anuto is licensed under the GPL-2.0. The repository has no separate licence for its graphics or its sound effects, which a contributor recorded for the game in 2016, so they presumably fall under the same GPL.
- Not to be confused with “Anuto: Buy & Sell Nearby”, an unrelated marketplace app on Google Play.

Common questions
Is this APK the official Anuto TD release?
It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled Anuto TD 0.13 from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.
What Android version does Anuto TD need?
Android 6.0 or later (API level 23). Version 0.13 is built for Android 15 (target API 35). Pure Java/Kotlin, so it runs on any CPU.
Can Anuto TD access the internet?
No. The APK doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so the app can’t go online by itself. In total it declares 0 permissions, and none of them needs your approval first.
Does Anuto TD contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 0.13 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is Anuto TD open source?
Yes. Anuto TD is released under the GPL-2.0-only licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/mjaun/android-anuto.
Why does the Teleporter seem to do nothing to some enemies?
Each enemy can be teleported only once, by design. The developer explains that this avoids “endless waves where you have enough teleporters to prevent the remaining enemies from reaching the end”. The project’s wiki adds: “An enemy that has already been teleported has a pink circle in the middle.”
Can I move my saved games to another phone?
Not from inside the game. Asked about exporting saves, the developer answered “Sorry, but currently there is no such feature.” That was in 2020, and the request is still open. Saves are kept in the app’s private storage, so uninstalling removes them unless Android’s own backup restores them.
How do I change the game’s language?
Through your phone’s language setting. The developer: “The language is selected according to the operating system language. Currently there is no option to choose it manually.” The game is translated into about 18 languages, Portuguese among them.
Does the game ever end?
Only when you run out of lives. The waves keep coming and get harder each round; the project’s wiki puts it this way: “there is no ‘winning’ in Anuto TD. There is only the high score.”
