Introduction
Quran for Android is the open-source reader from Quran.com’s Android team. Its main reading view follows printed Madani pages rather than reflowing the Arabic into ordinary paragraphs. You can move by surah, juz or page and tap an ayah for translation, tafsir, audio and sharing actions.
The APK on this page is the project’s no-Google edition. We matched its size and SHA-256 hash to quran-3.6.5-no-google.apk on the official GitHub release. It is developer-signed and distributed by IzzyOnDroid without rebuilding or changing the file.
Reading and finding a passage
- Browse the surah and juz lists, or return to recent pages.
- Search the Quran and jump from a result to its ayah. Arabic search requires its separate search package, and which translated text is searchable depends on the content you have installed.
- Add a bookmark to a page or a particular ayah. Tags let you group bookmarks by a theme or study plan instead of keeping one long list.
- Tap an ayah to copy or share it, show installed translations and tafsir, or start recitation from that position.
- Use night mode when reading in low light. The project also supports more than one Madani-style page set, downloaded separately.
The repository and metadata screenshots confirm these long-standing screens, but the screenshots are not labelled as version 3.6.5. We therefore use them to illustrate the workflow, not to claim that every colour or control is pixel-for-pixel current.
Audio and offline use
Recitations are selected by reciter and obtained from the project’s content servers. Non-gapless sets use one file per ayah. Gapless sets use one audio file per surah plus a timing database so the player can follow at ayah level. The app can download a recitation in advance or stream it using a size-limited temporary cache that may be evicted.
The app does not bundle page images, audio, translations or commentary in the 8.4 MB installer. An internet connection is required to fetch the exact material you choose. Reading stored pages and translations and playing already downloaded audio can then work offline; changing to content that is not stored yet cannot.
Downloaded religious text and recordings are not automatically covered by the app’s GPL licence. The About screen credits page images, translations, tafsir and reciters but does not present complete licence terms. The project README says these resources are typically CC BY-NC-ND; confirm the particular source before redistributing a content folder.
Privacy and this build
The normal project supports Firebase-based analytics and crash reporting in builds where Google services are enabled. The no-Google build flag replaces those components with empty implementations, and our static scan found no tracker libraries. Network use is not limited to a button press: the main screen refreshes the translation list, a weekly worker checks for audio updates, and DNS lookup races the system resolver, Google at 8.8.8.8, Cloudflare at 1.1.1.1 and Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS. Page, translation and audio downloads also contact project content servers.
Version 3.6.5 introduces a new app icon and tint colouring and contains bug and performance fixes. We did not treat its change log as proof that a particular device or downloaded content pack is error-free.
About this file
- This is the official 3.6.5 no-Google APK, signed by Quran Android and mirrored through IzzyOnDroid. It is byte-for-byte identical to the file on the project’s GitHub release.
- It needs Android 7.0 or later, contains native code for ARM and x86 in both 32- and 64-bit forms and declares 10 permissions.
- The public app code is GPL-3.0, but the official build can include an ignored private
extrasmodule. This APK contains page-set definitions absent from the public source, and IzzyOnDroid therefore marks it NonFreeAssets. - Downloaded resources retain their own terms; the project README says they are typically CC BY-NC-ND, while the About screen supplies credits rather than complete licences.
- Our APK scan found no trackers. We checked the APK, manifest and publicly available source, not the private component or the theological accuracy of translations and tafsir.

Common questions
Is this APK the official Quran for Android release?
Yes. It is the developer’s own release of Quran for Android 3.6.5, byte for byte as IzzyOnDroid distributes it. Its SHA-256 matches IzzyOnDroid’s signed index, and it is signed with the certificate IzzyOnDroid records for the app (SHA-256 80773743b5ee06dadd54d64d660ab6f97812f81846e75525069e689cd9c3e99d).
What Android version does Quran for Android need?
Android 7.0 or later (API level 24). Version 3.6.5 is built for Android 16 (target API 36). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.
Can Quran for Android access the internet?
Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 10 permissions, and 2 of them need your approval first.
Does Quran for Android contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 3.6.5 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is Quran for Android open source?
Its code is. The source code of Quran for Android is released under the GPL-3.0-only licence and published at https://github.com/quran/quran_android. The public code is GPL-3.0, but this APK also contains data from a private extras module, which is why IzzyOnDroid marks NonFreeAssets. Downloaded pages, translations, tafsir and recitations have separate terms, typically CC BY-NC-ND according to the project README.
Does the APK include every recitation and translation?
No. The APK includes no Quran page images. All page sets, recitations, translations, tafsir and the Arabic search package are separate downloads. The first launch offers the required page files; declining means reading still needs internet. Stored pages and other downloaded content can then be used offline.
Why is this called the no-Google build?
The project publishes a separate APK with Google services disabled. Its build replaces Firebase analytics and crash reporting with no-op components. The hosted file is byte-for-byte the project’s official 3.6.5 no-Google release, and our scan found no tracker libraries.
