Introduction

PySolFC is the PySol Fan Club edition, a long-running Python collection maintained by Shlomi Fish and other contributors. The Android port began separately in 2016 and was merged into the main project in 2018. It uses Kivy to put the same large game catalogue behind a touch interface for phones and tablets.

More than Klondike

The game selector groups a very large number of rule sets: familiar patience families such as Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, Canfield, Gypsy and Forty Thieves; Mahjongg tile layouts; Shisen-Sho; memory games; and other puzzle-like variants. Some entries are small rule changes, so “more than 1,000” does not mean that every item has completely different artwork or controls.

The Android toolbar and menus include a new deal, restart, unlimited undo and redo, hints, automatic demo play, saved games, player statistics and game information. Card movement and menus are designed for touch, but this remains a port of a desktop collection: the interface is dense and less native-looking than a small Android-first solitaire app.

The APK includes 35 card sets from PySolFC-Cardsets 3.0 plus Mahjongg tiles, rather than only one minimal deck. Extra card sets must use PNG images on this Kivy port and can be copied to .PySolFC/cardsets/; custom table backgrounds go under the adjacent data folders.

Offline operation

The measured file declares two storage permissions: legacy external-storage write access and MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. It does not declare internet access. Our scan found no trackers and no capability library for root, Shizuku or Xposed.

On Android 11 and later the permission code detects whether all-files access exists but does not launch Android’s special-access screen, so you must enable it manually. Without it, HOME stays in the app-private directory. With it, HOME changes to primary shared storage and the app uses /sdcard/.PySolFC/ for preferences, statistics, saved games, resources and plug-ins; existing private data is not migrated by this path. Python files under .PySolFC/plugins/ are loaded and executed at startup, so broad storage also makes that directory a code-execution boundary. If the bundled resources are enough, leave the special access off.

About this file

  • This is F-Droid’s build of version 3.6.1, added on 26 July 2026 and signed with F-Droid’s key. Its short release note lists new games and variants, enhancements and bug fixes.
  • The 74.7 MB APK runs on Android 5.0 and later and includes both 32- and 64-bit ARM libraries. Much of its size is the Python, SDL and Kivy runtime packaged for both architectures.
  • PySolFC is GPL-3.0-or-later. Its bundled interface artwork also carries credits: for example, one toolbar set is CC BY-SA, another LGPL-2.1 and progression artwork is CC0. Four bundled table backgrounds—Cosmos, Dark Forest, Purple Mosaic and Stone Wall—may not be sold commercially unchanged, and 25 converted card sets do not carry their original COPYRIGHT files in the bundle.
  • The six screenshots are project images from 2023–2024, distributed in F-Droid’s signed metadata; some show German menus as well as card and tile-game layouts.

Common questions

Is this APK the official PySolFC release?

It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled PySolFC 3.6.1 from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.

What Android version does PySolFC need?

Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). Version 3.6.1 is built for Android 16 (target API 36). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.

Can PySolFC access the internet?

No. The APK doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so the app can’t go online by itself. In total it declares 2 permissions, and 1 of them needs your approval first.

Does PySolFC contain trackers?

No known trackers: our scan of version 3.6.1 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.

Is PySolFC open source?

Yes. PySolFC is released under the GPL-3.0-or-later licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/shlomif/PySolFC.

How many games are in the Android app?

F-Droid describes the package as more than 1,000 solitaire games, while the shared PySolFC project says more than 1,200. The project also calls Android a subset of the desktop functions, so those descriptions do not prove that every desktop game and feature is exposed identically on Android.

Does it need internet access?

No. The APK declares no internet permission and our scan found no advertising, analytics or tracker. Games, help, statistics, hints and the bundled card graphics are local.

Why does PySolFC ask for all-files access?

On Android 11 and later the app does not open the all-files settings screen for you; you must grant the special access manually. Once granted, it changes HOME to shared storage, so settings, statistics, saves, added resources and executable Python plug-ins use `/sdcard/.PySolFC/`. Leave it off unless you need that shared folder.

Is this the same as the desktop PySolFC?

It shares game rules and data with the Windows, Linux and macOS project, but uses a Kivy interface and is described as a subset of the desktop functions. Python files placed in its shared `.PySolFC/plugins/` folder are loaded and executed at startup, so install none from an untrusted source. The project has a command-line `--noplugins` option, but the Android interface exposes no plug-in switch.
