Fossify Notes

Fossify Notes is an open-source notes app from Fossify, the community project that took over the Simple Mobile Tools apps after they were discontinued in late 2023. It carries on from Simple Notes Pro, under a package name of its own, so it installs as a separate app. Fossify labels it beta, which it says means testing and development are still under way.

What it does

From the project’s website, changelog and the app itself:

• Text notes and checklists. Checked items can be collapsed or all unchecked at once, and each note can have its own sort order.
• Widgets that put a note on the home screen.
• Locks: protect the app, or single notes, with a pattern, PIN or fingerprint, and optionally ask for it before a note is deleted.
• Import and export: all notes as a JSON file, a single note as a text file, and text files or a whole folder into the app. Automatic backups are optional.
• Notes linked to a file: a note can show and edit a text file stored on the phone.
• Search, undo and redo, a word and character count, printing, a monospaced font, and an option that asks your keyboard to use its incognito mode.

Good to know

• A forgotten lock can’t be undone. The app warns that if you forget a note’s password, neither the password nor the note’s content can be recovered.
• It won’t open a file larger than one megabyte. The APK doesn’t request internet access, so it can’t load files from the web.
• Since version 1.7.0, checklists are shared as plain text. That version came out in January 2026 and is still the latest release.

About this file

• This is Fossify’s own build, delivered through IzzyOnDroid and signed by Fossify. It is byte for byte the APK on the project’s GitHub release and the one F-Droid distributes, and IzzyOnDroid and an independent builder both rebuilt it from the source code and got the same file.
• Fossify says its Google Play and F-Droid releases use the same package name and signing key, so this file can be installed over the Play version when it is the same version or newer. In the source code, the Play build of Notes now and then asks you to buy Fossify’s Thank You app; this build doesn’t.
• The 9.5 MB file runs on Android 8.0 and later and declares 6 permissions.

CPU types in this build: arm64-v8a (64-bit ARM, almost every phone since 2017); armeabi-v7a (32-bit ARM, older and budget phones); x86 (32-bit Intel, emulators); x86_64 (64-bit Intel, emulators and Chromebooks).
