Introduction
Android lets you customise each app’s notifications by channel: importance, sound, vibration, whether they appear at all. Some channels are exempt, though. The best-known example is the persistent “Developer options are enabled” notice, whose settings are greyed out. Free Notifications is an Xposed module that makes every channel editable again.
What it does
With the module active, locked channels behave like any other. You can change:
- importance, including turning a channel off,
- sound and ringtone,
- vibration,
- and the other per-channel settings Android offers.
Removing the module keeps your changes. Settings you made stay as they are. You just can’t edit those channels any more until you install it again. If you want the system defaults back, the same developer publishes a separate Reset all Notification Channels module.
It is one of several small modules in the developer’s XposedModulets collection.
What you need
- Root and LSPosed. It is a classic Xposed module.
- Android 8.0 or newer, which is when notification channels were introduced.
What stands out in the APK
- 20 KB, no permissions, no native code, no trackers.
- No icon and no screen of its own. The manifest doesn’t declare an app icon. Everything happens in LSPosed and then in the normal Android notification settings.
Installing it
- Install the APK.
- In LSPosed, enable Free Notifications and keep the scope LSPosed recommends for it.
- Reboot.
- Go to Settings › Notifications, open the app whose channel was locked, and change it like any other.
Who should skip it
If the only notification that bothers you is the Developer options one, turning Developer options off removes it without any module. This is for people who want those options on and the notification gone, or who want control over other locked channels.
