Introduction

Android lets you pick a mock location app in Developer options, which is useful for testing or for feeding the phone a position from an external GPS receiver. Many apps check whether a mock location is active and refuse to work if it is. HideMockLocation is an Xposed module that hides that fact from the apps you choose.

How it works

The module hooks the calls apps use to find out whether a location is mocked, and inside the apps you select, the answer comes back as “not mocked”. It does nothing to the location itself. You still need a mock location app to supply one.

It is per app. In LSPosed you enable it only for the apps that should be fooled, and everything else on the phone sees the truth.

What you need

  • Root and LSPosed.
  • Android 8.0 or newer for this build. The project describes the module as working from Android 6, but the APK we host declares Android 8.0 as its minimum, and Android won’t install it on anything older.
  • A current LSPosed build. The module uses the newer libxposed API (its entry point is META-INF/xposed/java_init.list), which older Xposed frameworks don’t load.

What stands out in the APK

  • 22 KB, no permissions, no native code, no trackers.
  • The launcher icon isn’t in the IzzyOnDroid listing, so we took it from the APK itself.

Installing it

  1. Install the APK.
  2. In LSPosed, enable HideMockLocation and tick each app that shouldn’t detect the mock location.
  3. Force-stop those apps.
  4. Set your mock location app in Developer options, as usual.

Worth knowing

Some apps treat mock locations as cheating or fraud, and hiding one can break their terms of service. Games with location features and banking or delivery apps are the usual examples. Using this module with them is your own responsibility.

Common questions

Is this APK the official HideMockLocation release?

Yes. It is the developer’s own release of HideMockLocation 2.3.1, byte for byte as IzzyOnDroid distributes it. Its SHA-256 matches IzzyOnDroid’s signed index, and it is signed with the certificate IzzyOnDroid records for the app (SHA-256 06c19b8aeb0fdf14bef31ea34834d6ba7a3f38856728ff1fa35e334ef7fc2db1).

What Android version does HideMockLocation need?

Android 8.0 or later (API level 26). Version 2.3.1 is built for Android 16 (target API 36). Pure Java/Kotlin, so it runs on any CPU.

Can HideMockLocation access the internet?

No. The APK doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so the app can’t go online by itself. In total it declares 0 permissions, and none of them needs your approval first.

Does HideMockLocation contain trackers?

No known trackers: our scan of version 2.3.1 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.

Is HideMockLocation open source?

Yes. HideMockLocation is released under the MIT licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/auag0/HideMockLocation.
