Introduction

Iconify is a root app for restyling the Android system UI on Pixel phones and AOSP-based custom ROMs. It covers the parts of Android that launchers and icon packs can’t reach: Quick Settings, the notification shade, the volume panel and the system icons. Every change is shown as a preview before you apply it.

This is the FOSS build (com.drdisagree.iconify.foss).

What you can change

  • System icon packs and accent colours, solid or gradient
  • Quick Settings: tile shapes, the number of rows and columns, icon and label styling
  • Brightness bar style
  • Notification and media player style
  • Volume panel style
  • and more, according to the project

It started as a Substratum theme, became a Magisk module, and grew into an app because applying overlays without seeing them first was frustrating. That history explains how it works: most changes are overlays applied with root, and some extra features use Xposed hooks.

What you need

  • Android 12 or newer. The APK won’t install on anything older.
  • A Pixel or AOSP-based ROM. Manufacturer skins such as One UI or HyperOS aren’t the target, and the developer notes that even some AOSP ROMs aren’t fully compatible.
  • Root, with Magisk recommended or KernelSU.
  • LSPosed is optional and unlocks the features that rely on Xposed hooks.
  • A custom recovery, as a safety net. The developer’s own advice is to have one before applying anything.

What stands out in the APK

  • No trackers.
  • Both an Xposed entry point and libsu, the root-shell library. That matches the project’s design: root for overlays, Xposed for the optional hooks.
  • Location, including background location, is among the permissions that ask first. The app also declares a weather permission of its own, so location most likely feeds a weather display. Android asks before granting it, and you can decline.
  • All-files access is also requested. It is a special permission you turn on in Settings.
  • 33.8 MB, the largest app in our customization list, with native code for ARM and x86, 32- and 64-bit.

Installing it

  1. Make sure you have a custom recovery, or at least your stock boot image, in case a change stops the phone from booting.
  2. Install the APK, open it and grant root.
  3. Tap Continue and wait for it to finish setting up, then reboot.
  4. Apply changes from the app. Every change shows a preview first.

Which version this is

  • This is version 7.3.0, from May 2026, the latest FOSS build. It is meant for Android 12 to 16 on builds without a quarterly platform release (QPR): its release notes list fixes for “Android 12–16 non-QPR”.
  • For Android 16 QPR1 and newer, the project released Iconify 8.0.0 the same day. That build needs Android 16, comes in one version only and uses the package name com.drdisagree.iconify, so it installs as a separate app rather than updating this one. It is on the project’s GitHub releases.
  • The file here is the FOSS build from the project’s v7.3.0 release on GitHub, byte for byte, matching the checksum GitHub publishes. It is signed with the same key as the IzzyOnDroid version, which stopped at 7.2.0, so it installs over that as a normal update.

Common questions

Is this APK the official Iconify release?

Yes. It is the file from the project’s v7.3.0 release on GitHub, byte for byte, and it matches the SHA-256 checksum GitHub publishes for it. It is signed with the certificate we recorded when we first checked Iconify (SHA-256 4af4ffa12ce90815a1775c4604ea16c19f5bed2a6e09ae7c3c92815982af052e); a release signed with a different key would not be published here.

What Android version does Iconify need?

Android 12 or later (API level 31). Version 7.3.0 is built for Android 15 (target API 35). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.

Can Iconify access the internet?

Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 14 permissions, and 6 of them need your approval first.

Does Iconify contain trackers?

No known trackers: our scan of version 7.3.0 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.

Is Iconify open source?

Yes. Iconify is released under the GPL-3.0 licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/Mahmud0808/Iconify.

Which Iconify version should I use?

It depends on your Android build. This FOSS build, version 7.3.0, is meant for Android 12 to 16 without a QPR update. On Android 16 QPR1 or newer, use Iconify 8.0.0 from the project’s GitHub releases; it has a different package name, so it installs as a separate app.
