Introduction
Termux:Float shows a Termux terminal in a small window of its own that stays on top of whatever app you’re using. Its package name is com.termux.window, which is what you’ll see in Android’s app settings.
Using it
- It needs the Display over other apps permission, and tells you so if it’s missing. You grant it in Android’s settings.
- Long-press the window to move or resize it. Double-tap and drag up or down to change the font size.
- Tap its notification to hide the window for a while.
- From version 0.15 you can adjust it with a settings file,
~/.termux/termux.float.properties; the README lists the options.
Good to know
- Version 0.17.0 added the internet permission. The developers say this may fix Termux having no internet access when Termux:Float was installed before Termux, a side effect of the two sharing a user ID.
- It declares three permissions (drawing over other apps, internet and vibration). The 1.9 MB file has native code for ARM and x86, 32- and 64-bit.
- It only works with a Termux from the same source; our Termux plugins guide explains why. The Google Play version of Termux doesn’t offer a floating window add-on yet.

Common questions
Is this APK the official Termux:Float release?
It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled Termux:Float 0.17.0 from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.
