Introduction
Termux:Tasker connects Termux to automation apps. Tasker is the best known, but the plugin works with other apps that host Tasker-style plugins. The automation decides when something happens; your Termux script decides what.
Setting it up
- Install it from the same source as your Termux.
- Put your scripts in
~/.termux/tasker/. - Give the automation app permission to run commands in Termux. For Tasker: Settings → Apps → Tasker → Permissions → Additional permissions → Run commands in Termux environment. Without this, no plugin command runs at all.
- In Tasker, add an action, choose Plugin, then the Termux plugin, and pick your script. It runs in the background by default, or in a new terminal session if you choose.
Scripts in ~/.termux/tasker/ need nothing more. Running programs from anywhere else requires turning on allow-external-apps in Termux’s properties file, and the README warns against that if you’ve given the run-commands permission to an app you don’t fully trust.
Good to know
- By default a command times out after 10 seconds, and the output handed back to Tasker is cut to 100 kilobytes.
- F-Droid flags it NonFreeDep: it’s meant to be used with Tasker, which is a paid, closed-source app.
- It has no native code; the file is 2.9 MB and runs on Android 5.0 and later.
- It only works with a Termux from the same source; our Termux plugins guide explains why. The Google Play version of Termux doesn’t offer a Tasker plugin yet.

Common questions
Is this APK the official Termux:Tasker release?
It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled Termux:Tasker 0.9.0 from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.
What Android version does Termux:Tasker need?
Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). Version 0.9.0 is built for Android 9 (target API 28). Pure Java/Kotlin, so it runs on any CPU.
Can Termux:Tasker access the internet?
No. The APK doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so the app can’t go online by itself. In total it declares 2 permissions, and none of them needs your approval first.
Does Termux:Tasker contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 0.9.0 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is Termux:Tasker open source?
Yes. Termux:Tasker is released under the GPL-3.0-only licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/termux/termux-tasker.
