Introduction

From the README: “Antimine is a minesweeper-like puzzle game. The objective is to flag the spaces with mines to make the field a safer place without exploding any of them. You win the game when you’ve flagged every mine in the minefield. Be careful not to trigger one!” It is made by Lucas Nunes, a Brazilian developer, and first appeared on Google Play in 2016.

What it has

  • Levels Beginner (9×9, 10 mines), Intermediate, Expert, Master and Legend (100×100, 2,000 mines), custom boards, and modes with growing or fixed board sizes.
  • Help when you need it: tips that reveal a mine, an assistant that flags mines you have already found, opening several squares by tapping a number, continuing after hitting a mine, and retrying a lost game.
  • Four control styles, with adjustable long-press time and optional question marks.
  • Themes and tile styles, including a classic grey look, dynamic colours and a black theme for AMOLED screens.
  • Statistics, saved games you can resume, split-screen and zoom.

In this build, the premium features are unlocked, with 100 tips instead of 25, five save slots instead of one, and a game history. The README also lists Wear OS and Android Auto, but those parts aren’t in F-Droid’s build.

What goes online

Nothing; the app has no internet permission. See the questions above for crash reports, which go through your email app only if you send them.

There are donation prompts: a Donation button in the main menu, and a banner after games, “If you like this game, consider making a donation.”, until you tap it once. They link to PayPal and GitHub Sponsors, and on phones set to Brazil the donation screen also offers Pix.

About this file

  • This is F-Droid’s build of Antimine 17.6.3, compiled from the developer’s source and signed with F-Droid’s key; F-Droid published it on 8 December 2023. Its changes: a fix to the tips, and build changes. The developer’s own 17.5.0 APK on GitHub has the same package name but his own key, so it and this file can’t replace each other.
  • The package name is dev.lucanlm.antimine, without the “s” of the developer’s name; a comment in the build file: “There”s a typo on F-Droid release :(”. The developer on other sources: “If you got it from Play Store or F-Droid it should not have any malware. I can’t guarantee the same for any other store.” This is F-Droid’s file, unchanged.
  • The open-source app hasn’t changed since 2024. Open reports on this version include the no-guessing one above, the Back button revealing all the mines after a loss, overlapping text in the menu, and taps sometimes not registering.
  • The 9.4 MB file runs on Android 5.0 and later, on ARM and x86, 32- and 64-bit. It declares 2 permissions: vibration, and an internal one that Android libraries add. Our scan lists ACRA, the library behind the email crash reports.
  • The app is translated into Brazilian Portuguese, 145 of its 151 texts.
  • The screenshots are the developer’s own, from January 2023, a few versions earlier.

Licences

Antimine is licensed under the GPL-3.0. Two parts aren’t covered by a stated licence:

  • Music and sound effects: the developer “contracted a composer”, and the music is credited in the app to Tatyana Jacques. The project states no licence for the music or the 20 sound effects.
  • The mine generator is adapted from Mines in Simon Tatham’s Portable Puzzle Collection: most of its comments match the original word for word. That code is under the MIT licence, which asks for its copyright notice to be kept; Antimine’s files and its in-app licence list don’t include it.

The emoji faces in the win and loss dialogs are credited to Noto Emoji.

Common questions

Is this APK the official Antimine release?

It is F-Droid’s build rather than the developer’s own: F-Droid compiled Antimine 17.6.3 F from the published source code and signed it with its own key. Its SHA-256 matches F-Droid’s signed index. Because the key is F-Droid’s, it won’t install over a copy from Google Play or GitHub without uninstalling first.

What Android version does Antimine need?

Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). Version 17.6.3 F is built for Android 14 (target API 34). Runs on 64-bit and older 32-bit ARM phones.

Can Antimine access the internet?

No. The APK doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so the app can’t go online by itself. In total it declares 2 permissions, and none of them needs your approval first.

Does Antimine contain trackers?

Yes. Version 17.6.3 F contains code from ACRA, which matches an Exodus Privacy tracker signature. That shows the code is bundled, not how the app uses it.

Is Antimine open source?

Its code is. The source code of Antimine is released under the GPL-3.0-only licence and published at https://github.com/lucasnlm/antimine-android. Its music and sound effects, commissioned from a composer, have no stated licence, and its mine generator is adapted from Simon Tatham’s MIT-licensed Mines without that licence’s notice.

Is this the same as Antimine on Google Play?

No. Google Play’s “Antimine: no guess minesweeper” is version 18, which the developer describes as “a complete different source code, not based on this repository, and written on Flutter”; it has ads and in-app purchases. It uses a different package name, so it installs next to this one, and neither updates the other.

Does it send anything?

No. This build has no internet permission, and the developer has said “the F-droid build doesn’t do any request”. If it crashes, it shows a message and opens your email app with a report addressed to the developer, containing device details, the app’s settings and its recent log lines; it goes out only if you press Send.

Are all boards solvable without guessing?

The developer describes a “No guessing algorithm”, and boards are generated with code adapted from Simon Tatham’s Mines, which is built for that. An open report from March 2026, on this version, says “No guessing mode seems broken”, finding most 6×6 boards with 10 mines unsolvable; the developer hasn’t replied.

Why is this an older version?

F-Droid’s build of the next version, 17.7.0, failed in July 2024 and was switched off, and the newer Antimine on Google Play is a separate code base. So 17.6.3, from December 2023, is the newest version of this open-source app that F-Droid builds. The developer’s GitHub releases after 17.5.0 have no APK.
