Introduction
ScummVM began as a way to play LucasArts adventures and now covers more than 325 games, from LucasArts, Sierra On-Line, Revolution Software, Cyan and Westwood Studios among others. In its README’s words: “ScummVM allows you to play classic graphic point-and-click adventure games, text adventure games, and RPGs, as long as you already have the game data files. ScummVM replaces the executable files shipped with the games”. That makes it different from an emulator: “ScummVM is a complete rewrite of these games’ executables and is not an emulator.” The project says of itself: “We also do not run advertisements or sell you anything.”
On Android
- Three touch modes, set separately for menus, 2D games and 3D games: direct mouse, touchpad emulation and gamepad emulation. There is an on-screen button for the game menu, a virtual keyboard, and support for game controllers.
- Android TV support, and shortcuts to single games on the home screen.
- Your files through Android’s folder picker. Since Android 7.0, ScummVM reaches your games through folders you grant it access to; saves and settings stay in its own app folder unless you change the save path.
- Backup and restore of your settings and saved games.
What goes online
From the code of this version, nothing connects with default settings: there is no update check on Android and we found no analytics or crash reporting.
- Cloud saves with Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive or Box, once you connect an account, which goes through ScummVM’s server cloud.scummvm.org, and then switch the storage on. From then on, saves sync when ScummVM starts and each time you save or load.
- A local web server for moving game files and saves from a computer, when you tap Run server. It answers anyone on your network on port 12345, and we found no password in its code, so stop it when you are done.
- Icon and shader packs download from scummvm.org when you tap the buttons for them.
- Online play in some Humongous Entertainment sports games, such as Backyard Football, through ScummVM’s multiplayer server, when you start a network game.
About this file
- This is ScummVM 2026.3.0, released on 20 June 2026, with its Android build from the next day. Since 2026 the version number starts with the year. This release adds games such as Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel, Noctropolis and the Pilot Brothers series; for Android, ScummVM’s notes on Google Play list “Reworked the sound subsystem to use the Oboe audio library” and “Fixed a crash related to Cloud storage on OneDrive”.
- The file is the 64-bit ARM build from scummvm.org, byte for byte, matching the SHA-256 that scummvm.org publishes next to it. It is signed with ScummVM’s key from 2011 (O=ScummVM, c59c0677…f995). ScummVM also offers builds for 32-bit ARM, including one for older chips without NEON, and for x86.
- The 129.8 MB file needs Android 5.0 or later: the app’s manifest says Android 4.1, but its 64-bit native code is built for Android 5.0, the first version with 64-bit support. It declares 5 permissions: internet, network and Wi-Fi state, and storage access on Android 12 and older. Our scan found no trackers.
- ScummVM is licensed under the GPL-3.0 or later; its fonts and some components come under the SIL Open Font License, the LGPL, BSD and Apache licences, as its licence files list. The default soundfont for music, Roland_SC-55.sf2, is described by ScummVM as “Copyright (c) 2015 deemster. Licensed under the GPL v3 (or greater)”, while the file’s own information says “Sound Canvas Pure.sf2” and “Copyright 1996 Roland Corporation U.S.”; where its samples come from we couldn’t establish. The engine data files hold no games, but some contain tables, strings, fonts or a title picture and music taken from the original games’ programs, which ScummVM ships with every version.
- The app is translated into Brazilian Portuguese, about three quarters of it.
- The screenshots show only ScummVM’s own screens, from its store images (version 2.7.1) and its Android documentation.

Common questions
Is this APK the official ScummVM release?
Yes. It is the file scummvm.org offers for download, byte for byte, and it matches the SHA-256 checksum scummvm.org publishes for it. It is signed with the certificate we recorded when we first checked ScummVM (SHA-256 c59c0677e9835b720812c08ccec8d4c65c4b4718ffc9109a8d9d058d7223f995); a release signed with a different key would not be published here.
What Android version does ScummVM need?
Android 5.0 or later (API level 21). The APK’s manifest declares API level 16, but its native code for 64-bit ARM is built for API level 21 (Android 5.0), the first Android version that supports 64-bit processors. Version 2026.3.0 is built for Android 16 (target API 36). Needs a 64-bit ARM phone; 32-bit-only devices are not supported.
Can ScummVM access the internet?
Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 5 permissions, and 2 of them need your approval first.
Does ScummVM contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 2026.3.0 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is ScummVM open source?
Its code is. The source code of ScummVM is released under the GPL-3.0-or-later licence and published at https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm. Its default MIDI soundfont is labelled GPL-3.0 by ScummVM, but the file’s own header says “Copyright 1996 Roland Corporation U.S.”, and some engine data files hold tables, strings or graphics taken from the original games.
Does it come with games?
No. The README: ScummVM lets you play these games “as long as you already have the game data files”. The project offers a set of freeware games as separate downloads on scummvm.org, among them Beneath a Steel Sky, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Lure of the Temptress, Drascula and Dreamweb; none of them is inside this APK. The FAQ adds: “Our project has a strict no-piracy policy.”
Is this the newest ScummVM?
It is the newest version for Android, not the newest ScummVM. Version 2026.4.0 came out for Windows, macOS and a few other systems on 11 October 2026, with the note “The port builds will follow shortly”; until the Android build arrives, scummvm.org lists the 2026.3.0 Android files under “Older versions (unsupported)”. Google Play also has 2026.3.0.
How do I add a game?
Copy the game’s files to a folder on the phone. In ScummVM, tap Add Game…, go up to the top, double-tap <Add a new folder>, pick the folder with your games in Android’s file picker and allow access. Then open the folder inside ScummVM, select the game’s own folder and tap Choose.
Can I install it over the Google Play version?
Most likely yes: APKMirror lists the same signing certificate (O=ScummVM) for the Play release, and this file’s version code is higher than Play’s, so Android should accept it as an update; we haven’t tried it. Don’t uninstall ScummVM to switch: its documentation warns that uninstalling deletes its app folders, saved games included.
