Introduction
Fossify Launcher is an open-source home screen app from Fossify, the community project that took over the Simple Mobile Tools apps after they were discontinued in late 2023. It carries on from Simple Launcher. Its package name is org.fossify.home rather than org.fossify.launcher: according to the project’s commit history, someone else had already published an app on Google Play under that name. Fossify labels it beta, which it says means testing and development are still under way.
What it does
From the project’s website, changelog and source code:
- A home screen for app icons, shortcuts, folders and widgets, with as many rows and columns as you set.
- An app drawer with a search that ignores accents; pressing Enter opens the first result. The list of widgets can be searched too.
- Hidden apps: remove an icon from the drawer, for example for a system app you can’t uninstall.
- Gestures: swipe up for the app drawer, swipe down for notifications, and optionally double-tap to lock the screen. App labels can be hidden.
- No account and no content feed, and the APK doesn’t request internet access.
Good to know
- Hiding only removes the icon. The maintainer has said the feature isn’t meant as a vault.
- Double-tap to lock needs device administrator rights. The app warns that it can’t be uninstalled until you remove them again.
- No icon packs yet. The maintainer wants the app to be more stable before adding features.
- An open bug report says apps installed on an SD card drop off the home screen after every restart.
- Version 1.10.0, from February 2026, is still the latest release.
About this file
- This is Fossify’s own build, delivered through IzzyOnDroid and signed by Fossify. It is byte for byte the APK on the project’s GitHub release and the one F-Droid distributes, and IzzyOnDroid and an independent builder both rebuilt it from the source code and got the same file.
- Fossify says its Google Play and F-Droid releases use the same package name and signing key, so this file can be installed over the Play version when it is the same version or newer.
- The 5.2 MB file runs on Android 8.0 and later and declares 5 permissions, among them the one to see all installed apps, which a launcher needs to list them.

Is this APK the official Fossify Launcher release?
Yes. It is the developer’s own release of Fossify Launcher 1.10.0, byte for byte as IzzyOnDroid distributes it. Its SHA-256 matches IzzyOnDroid’s signed index, and it is signed with the certificate IzzyOnDroid records for the app (SHA-256 affdb124d3f4720c2f98dbca9eacba0514fba4306e20a2786c861c3c0d6ff292).
