Introduction
InstallerX Revived is an Android package installer by wxxsfxyzm. Its README calls it “a modern Android package installer and the community-maintained continuation of the original InstallerX project”, which its author archived in August 2023. It is “designed to replace limited stock or OEM package installers with a cleaner interface, broader package support, configurable installation profiles, and privileged workflows through Shizuku, Root, Dhizuku, or the system package manager mode.” It is actively developed; version 26.09 came out at the end of September 2026.
What it installs
- Formats, in the README’s words: “APK, APKS, APKM, XAPK, APK files inside ZIP archives, and batch APK installation”. XAPK files are supported only when they list split APKs. From the 26.09 code, it recognises an XAPK by a manifest with either split APKs or OBB game data (“expansions”), but it then reads only the split-APK list, which its parser requires: an XAPK that carries just an APK and OBB data fails to open, and the OBB data in any XAPK is ignored. For games packed that way, Universal Installer copies the OBB data.
- Links: share an https link to an APK with it, and it downloads and installs the file. Plain HTTP links are refused by default.
- From other apps: it can handle the install requests that file managers, browsers and stores send. Locking it in as the default installer, so that it replaces the system screen everywhere, needs Dhizuku, root with the InxLocker module, or the system mode.
Ways to install
InstallerX Revived works at several levels of privilege, which it calls authorizers:
- None: as an ordinary app, it hands the package to Android, which asks you to confirm each install.
- Shizuku, the default: installs without a prompt, through Shizuku’s ADB or root access.
- Root: everything Shizuku can do, though the README notes it “may be slower”.
- Dhizuku: device-owner access, enough for installing and for locking InstallerX in as the default installer, but limited for other tasks.
- System package manager mode, when InstallerX itself is installed as a system app.
With the higher levels you get options such as installing for another user profile or for all users, allowing downgrades, and silent installs in the background with a progress notification (a Live Activity on Android 16). Profiles let you set different options depending on which app started the install. Blocking installs by signature is available but off for new profiles, and an experimental section can flash Magisk, KernelSU and APatch modules, also off by default.
What goes online
From the 26.09 code, there is one setting, Allow Internet access, which is on by default:
- Update check: when you open the Settings tab or the About page, at most once each time the app runs, it asks GitHub’s API for the latest release. Downloading the update happens only when you tap it; you can route it through a built-in mirror (gh.sevencdn.com) or your own proxy.
- Downloads of APKs from links you share with it.
With the setting off, it makes no requests, although the internet permission stays in the manifest. There are no analytics or crash reports, and our scan found no trackers.
The permissions it asks for
Twenty-seven. Several of them, such as installing and deleting packages directly and managing users and app operations, are system permissions that only take effect when InstallerX is installed as a system app. The others: all-files access to read and delete package files, updating apps without asking (Android 12 and later, when you allow it), notifications for install progress, a foreground service while it installs, fingerprint or face to confirm installs and uninstalls if you turn that on, and the Shizuku and Dhizuku permissions for those modes.
How it compares
Universal Installer also installs split APKs silently through Shizuku, and adds VirusTotal checks, an update tracker and OBB copying. InstallerX Revived goes further into replacing the system installer: locking itself in as the default, per-app profiles and the system package manager mode. SAI is the older, simpler choice. Our guide to installing XAPK, APKS and APKM files covers these formats in more detail.
About this file
- This is the developer’s own release of version 26.09 from the project’s GitHub page, signed with a key issued to Carl Yu. The release workflow reads the keystore from the project’s private settings; no keystore or password appears in the repository’s history.
- The original InstallerX used the package name com.rosan.installer.x; since January 2025 this continuation uses its own, so the two install side by side and don’t update each other.
- It isn’t on Google Play, F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid.
- The 6.1 MB file has no native code, so it runs on any processor, on Android 8.0 and later. The release notes say “26.09 is the last version supporting Android 8.0 and 8.1. Future versions will require Android 9 or later.”
- InstallerX Revived is licensed under the GPL-3.0. The project publishes no screenshots, only its icon, so this page has none.

Common questions
Is this APK the official InstallerX Revived release?
Yes. It is the file from the project’s 26.09 release on GitHub, byte for byte, and it matches the SHA-256 checksum GitHub publishes for it. It is signed with the certificate we recorded when we first checked InstallerX Revived (SHA-256 48260df784f9b4901a17a8a74aa676dcde3ba7a26bbb59f9832420cc8a6b3e8e); a release signed with a different key would not be published here.
What Android version does InstallerX Revived need?
Android 8.0 or later (API level 26). Version 26.09 is built for Android 17 (target API 37). Pure Java/Kotlin, so it runs on any CPU.
Can InstallerX Revived access the internet?
Yes. The APK requests Android’s internet permission. In total it declares 27 permissions, and 3 of them need your approval first.
Does InstallerX Revived contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version 26.09 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is InstallerX Revived open source?
Yes. InstallerX Revived is released under the GPL-3.0 licence, and its source code is published at https://github.com/wxxsfxyzm/InstallerX-Revived.
Does it work without root or Shizuku?
Yes, with limits. Its guide: “as a normal user app, it uses the system install session and the system package manager asks the user to confirm”. It still opens split-APK bundles, APKS, APKM and XAPK files that list split APKs, which Android’s own installer can’t. Silent installs, downgrades and the other privileged options need Shizuku, root or Dhizuku.
What does “online” in the file name mean?
Nothing any more. The README: “InstallerX is now published as a single APK. Network access is controlled by an in-app setting. The release filename continues to include online only for compatibility with older in-app update clients”. Until mid-2026 there were separate online and offline builds.
Can it downgrade an app?
Sometimes. Its guide says a downgrade on “Android 15+ usually requires Root or system package manager mode”. Android also refuses to replace an app with one signed by a different key, whatever installer you use.
I hid the launcher icon. How do I open it again?
Dial *#*#46789#*#* in the phone app, which the app registers as a secret code, or use its Quick Settings tile if you added one.
