Introduction
OuterTune began as a fork of InnerTune and does two jobs: it is a YouTube Music client, and a local music player for the files on your phone. It isn’t made by Google or YouTube, and its README says so.
Its YouTube Music version is discontinued
The maintainers say the YouTube Music version of OuterTune is no longer in active development. Version 0.11 removed YouTube Music altogether and made OuterTune a local-only player; the latest 0.11 release on GitHub is marked as a pre-release. The file here is 0.10.1, released in December 2025, the last stable release with YouTube Music. It won’t get fixes, so if YouTube changes something on its side, the YouTube Music part may stop working.
What it does
From the project’s README:
- Downloads for offline playback, and playback of local files such as MP3, OGG and FLAC.
- Synced lyrics, including word-by-word, karaoke-style formats.
- Audio normalisation, tempo and pitch adjustment and other effects. The equalizer button opens Android’s own equalizer.
- Android Auto. If it doesn’t appear in the car, the FAQ says to turn on unknown sources in Android Auto’s settings.
- Signing in to YouTube Music is optional and syncs your account’s content, though sending whole playlists back to your account is currently unavailable.
Good to know
- It isn’t on Google Play, and the project says it isn’t listed there. An app called OuterTune that is on Google Play comes from a different developer.
- This file is the core build from the developer’s GitHub release, delivered through IzzyOnDroid. The core build leaves out the optional FFmpeg-based decoders.
- It runs on ARM and x86, 32- and 64-bit, is 10.1 MB and needs Android 7.0 or later.
