Introduction

Gyawun Music is an unofficial player for YouTube Music. It isn’t made by Google or YouTube, and its README says it isn’t affiliated with them. It is written in Flutter and aims to be simple rather than packed with options.

What it does

From the project’s README:

  • Background playback and offline downloads.
  • Synchronized lyrics, provided by LRCLib.
  • A built-in equalizer and loudness enhancer.
  • A sleep timer.
  • Podcast support.
  • Recommendations that can follow you between devices through a visitor ID.

No account needed

The README doesn’t mention signing in, and as far as we can tell from the source code, this version has no sign-in at all. Personalised content works through the visitor ID instead, which the settings let you enter on another device or reset.

Good to know

  • Like every YouTube Music client, it depends on YouTube not changing things on its side. When something breaks, the fix comes with an app update.
  • The file here is the 64-bit ARM build, 14.3 MB. The project’s GitHub releases also have builds for 32-bit ARM, x86_64 and a universal one.
  • It comes straight from the developer’s GitHub releases: the hash matches the one GitHub publishes, and the signing key is the same one IzzyOnDroid has verified for earlier versions. IzzyOnDroid itself was still on 2.0.17 when we checked.
  • It declares ten permissions, and none of them is the microphone.
