Introduction
aShell is a local ADB shell for phones running Shizuku. You type the commands you would normally send from a computer with adb shell, and they run on the phone with ADB’s rights, no computer needed. It is the app that aShell You began as a redesign of.
What you need
A working Shizuku setup and some familiarity with ADB and Linux commands. IzzyOnDroid puts it plainly: without Shizuku, the app won’t work at all. We found the Shizuku library in the APK.
Features
From the project’s README:
- A bundle of examples of common ADB commands.
- Long-running commands such as
logcatandtop. - Search in the last command’s output, and save it as a text file.
- Bookmarks for commands you use often, and a command history.
- A built-in file manager for the parts of the file system that need ADB’s rights.
Free here, paid on Google Play
On Google Play, aShell costs $0.99. Its listing there says that if you don’t want to buy it you can build it yourself, since the full source code is public. The file here is the developer’s own free build, delivered through IzzyOnDroid; its signing key is the same one F-Droid uses for its copy, so the two update each other.
Good to know
- Version 0.29 came out in September 2026.
- It is tiny: 2.2 MB, no native code, and just three declared permissions. It needs Android 7.0 or later.
- F-Droid flags its copy as depending on another app, Shizuku, to work.

Common questions
Is this APK the official aShell release?
Yes. It is the developer’s own release of aShell v0.29, byte for byte as IzzyOnDroid distributes it. Its SHA-256 matches IzzyOnDroid’s signed index, and it is signed with the certificate IzzyOnDroid records for the app (SHA-256 b427a24788ce5c44243284a64ff629c5bb72ac309356a1f1ee7d2413339fe424).
What Android version does aShell need?
Android 7.0 or later (API level 24). Version v0.29 is built for Android 17 (target API 37). Pure Java/Kotlin, so it runs on any CPU.
Can aShell access the internet?
No. The APK doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so the app can’t go online by itself. In total it declares 3 permissions, and 1 of them needs your approval first.
Does aShell contain trackers?
No known trackers: our scan of version v0.29 found no code matching the Exodus Privacy tracker signatures. The scan covers known tracker libraries; it doesn’t show what data the app itself sends.
Is aShell open source?
Yes. aShell is released under the GPL-3.0-or-later licence, and its source code is published at https://gitlab.com/sunilpaulmathew/ashell.
